Shafie Muhammad Baba Pehlwana Sain
 
Shafie Muhammad Baba Pehlwana Sain is the current Pir (caretaker and spiritual guide) of the site. I remember him from my frequent visits to the place in 1971, when he used to sit by the side of Baba Barkat Ali Sain. It seems to me that he hardly looks much older 30 years later. Baba Pehlwana Sain is a very ascetic and frugal person, and despite his very high age, his memory turned out to be sharper than my own. After a while of thinking back, he not only remembered my ex-husband's name, but also that of my daughter. I couldn't even remember having been to the shrine with my first child; it must have been in the late seventies, once more on our way to India, when we stopped in Lahore to visit our erstwhile neighbours, a schoolteacher and his family.
