Tomb of Baba Hazrat Shah Jamal

We often used to visit the shrine of Baba Hazrat Shah Jamal in Ichhra when living in Lahore in 1971.
Baba Hazrat
Shah Jamal was born in 1559. He belonged to the Qadri Soharwardi school and came to Lahore in 1588, during the time of Mogul emperor Jalaluddin Akbar. He died in 1649.
The tomb of the ascetic Sufi saint is located at the top of a mound. On a lower level there are other buildings, tombs and meeting grounds.
On Thursday evenings, hundreds of Lahoris gather at Baba Shah Jamal Darbar to mingle with the sufis, malangs (something like the Pakistani equivalent of Indian saddhus) and darwishs of the place for "Dhamal".
As opposed to fundamentalist Islam, in mystical Islam reiligious or "Sufi" music is very much apprecciated
Sufi music means any music that connects with the heart. It is the music of submission and surrender that bonds humans to God and transcends all religious boundaries.
