We
couldn't quite figure out what this procession was about, judging by the
garb of the participants and their peaceful demeanor it seemed to be something
religious. Once we got caught up in some political rally, hundreds of
men squeezing through the narrow lanes of the old bazaar excitedly shouting
some slogans, the only thing I understood was "sindabad", which
means "long life". In Pakistan as in India, politics and violence
often go hand in hand, so we were somewhat relieved when we managed to
get away from the fray.
