I
can't pass those stalls selling all types of delicious snacks. Since my
early travelling years I love street food. Pakistani street food includes
anything from a melange of potatoes, boiled and diced, mixed with chickpeas
and served with a mouth-watering mix of spices and tamarind sauce to dahi
bhallas - fried lentil patties topped with cooling yoghurt, powdered
spices and a special chutney. My personal favorites are gol gappas
- these are hollow and ball shaped, fashioned from a batter and fried.
The vendor punctures those balls and filles them by dipping them into
seasoned tamarind water, and hands them over piece by piece to the customer,
who pops each into his mouth as a whole, where they break and the spicy
liquid gushes out. This procedure goes on until the customer indicates
he's had enough. Gol gappas, sometimes also called "water puris",
are availible in India as well. I used to enjoy them in Rajastan a lot.
